A month of "love" at the National Centre for Craft & Design

The Museum of Broken Relationships may be an exhibition of objects and heartfelt stories but things are not too melancholy at The National Centre of Craft & Design during the “Valentines” month of February.

First Tuesday acoustic musicians will get the month started with an evening of music and song, celebrating as well as mourning broken relationships. It’s open door and free entry for performers and audience on Tuesday 7 February from 7pm – 9.30pm and a chance to serenade your loved one!

There are plenty of love-themed products on show and for sale in the shop including some stunning jewellery from over 20 different artists. You’ll find brooches, pendants, necklaces cufflinks and earrings fashioned from ceramics, silver, enamel, glass and even delicately hand-stitched driftwood. Recycled components, rubber silicone and resin are some of the more unusual materials which result in effective, colourful and bold items.

If you want to create your own gift then come along to the Print Making workshop taking place on Monday 13 February from 1pm – 4pm at the National Centre. As well as learning a variety of printing skills you will be able to make your very own beautifully crafted card just in time for big day.

For those who want to do something different on Valentines Day, the Centre is screening the film Lars and the Real Girl (12A), a quirky comedy exploring an unconventional relationship between Lars and the “girl of his dreams”. The film starts at 7pm and entry is free.

High quality craft to be purchased, a quirky film to watch, new skills to learn, acoustic music to listen to, the National Centre is certainly offering a wide variety of activities alongside the four exhibitions currently on show
