What relics from past romances would YOU leave in the Museum of Broken Relationships?

Created in Croatia by curators Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic, the exhibition began as a local art installation and is now a permanent museum in Zagreb which has recently received the European Museum of the Year Kenneth Hudson Award for Innovation. The Museum of Broken Relationships collects and presents anonymous objects and stories from communities around the world. From the tragic and war-torn, to the simple, sexy, silly, and downright hilarious the objects and their stories will strike a chord with everyone.

And you now have the opportunity to show your chosen object within this exhibition.

Laura Mabutt, Exhibitions Officer at The National Centre for Craft & Design said: “We are seeking contributions and objects from our visitors which relate to, or represent, the end of a ‘relationship’. Interpret as you wish! The objects may be of little or no worth, but it is the status of the item that has been accrued because of who it relates to and what it represents that we are interested in.”

Humour, sadness, nostalgia, anger, affection – whatever the emotion the possession evokes the object must be accompanied by its story. Donations can be anonymous and will be treated confidentially.

If you would like to contribute please contact the exhibitions team at The National Centre by emailing them at or telephone 01529 308710
